More on 4-10's

It sounds like the gov made the decision, announced it and left it to everyone else to work out the details and here. Most state employees that I have talked with are fine with the holiday decision although most would have liked to of had a voice in the decision. I think that is what most employees are upset about, the lack of choice they had in this decision. I have no problem with any of it, maybe that's why I think the gov went about it the right way. If he would have sent out the survey and had conversation before he made the decision, it would be a year before any decision was made.

I think that the holiday policy is great. My first holiday working for the state, I was working four-tens, so I put down ten hours on the holiday, it only made sense to me. I was working four-tens, I get ten hours on a holiday. Well the payroll guy gave me a call and told me to fix it. While I was working four-tens I would have to either work the two extra hours or take vacation time to make up on holiday weeks. I have no problem giving up two holidays for 52 Fridays.

Utah might have been the first state but it looks like others are considering the four-ten work week, Colorado and Arizona are talking about it. Many municipalities are working four-tens while many more are thinking about it.

I wounder how long it will take before we see any savings?

A Veteran friend of mine who works for the state was quite offended that Veteran's Day was taken away.

Personally, I think the biggest noise will come from the public when they can't access government services on Friday.

I agree that Veteran's Day was a poor pick but I think that they choose Veteran's Day schools are open.

I don't see much loss of government services. Most things can now be done online and what can't be done online state offices are open ten hours a day, offering plenty of opportunity for the public.

Spoken like a true bureaucrat that doesn't have a clue what customer service means.
